Director of Financial Operations

Gannett Co., Inc. US Community Publishing seeks a Director of Financial Operations. The Director of Financial Operations will manage day-to-day aspects within the division, assist in providing thought leadership for accounting policy changes and general ledger reporting structure, including the continued effort to standardize chart of accounts, accounting practices and allocation policies. The Director of Financial Operations will also work with field to understand finance system(s) needs/changes and sponsor those changes through the GCI IT “Agile" process, work with field and division advertising to understand future state requirements for billing systems and work with group IT directors and GCI IT to institute those requirements within the media services project.  In addition, the successful candidate will manage the process of ensuring compliance with internal Audit findings throughout the division and will review the quarterly representation process with division President and VP of Finance, and will manage the month end process for USCP Admin and complete a financial review along with reviewing National Sales Team financials monthly. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Finance for US Community Publishing. 

Coordinate with division advertising and Gannett Publishing Services in order to liaise with corporate IT in the design and implementation of media services project, which encompasses the upgrading of all systems for future state work flows and current technology.

Manage all day-to-day aspects of financial operation within the division.

Lead effort to standardize Chart of Accounts, accounting practices, and allocation policy within the division and collaborate with other divisions when appropriate.

Liaise with corporate finance and shared service providers for all tax, audit, payroll and operational accounting needs.

Manage process of ensuring compliance with internal and external audit findings and manage the quarterly representation process for division President and VP of Finance.

Manage staff.

Must be able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related business discipline. MBA and/or CPA desirable.

Minimum 5 years financial management experience.

10+ years overall finance experience.

Strong print/digital publishing experience.

Must be knowledgeable in GAAP and SOX requirements

Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Excellent organizational skills and analytical skills, including proficient PC skills in Microsoft Office applications
