Historic Advertising

If your town has an historic district, it could be a great way to garner new revenue streams. Realtors® undoubtedly pay special attention to the listings they have that are in historic areas, and we advise that you do likewise.

Editorially speaking
The best way to advertise an historic district is through the history itself. Work with the editorial department to run features on architectural highlights of your area. Give the history of the building and profile the current tenants, showcasing how they modernize within the dictated codes of the historic society. It would also be prudent to include the benefits, like tax credits, of living in and preserving an historic house. You can then sell advertising around the feature that is specifically aimed at buildings within the historic district.

Be a guide
Create a directory of the historic district(s) in your town. This directory can include things like famous landmarks, commercial buildings and, of course, the housing that is for sale or rent. A directory like this would also be a great spot for sell advertising to Realtors® that specialize in historic listings and rentals.

Coordinate an event
Organize an event in honor of the history of the town, which could be specific to an anniversary of the town or any date you choose. This could be as simple as a walking tour of the historic neighborhood(s) or a run through the districts. You could also have themed events, like a haunted tour around Halloween. Or, organize a “block party” in the historic district, complete with vendors (an additional revenue source!) and open houses of the historic buildings on the block, which would allow the public to tour and see the architecture.
